February 15th, 1998: one of the best days of our lives.
On December 1997, it was confirmed the performance of the
BSB in the International Festival of Music of Viña del Mar (Chile). Immediately
afterwards started the rumours of a visit to Argentina.
In the course of time, those rumours increase until
February 2nd, 1998 that it was confirmed: Backstreet Boys will be in Argentina doing a
mini concert for a TV show on February 15th, 1998
Their visit to Argentina
The Backstreet Boys arrived in Argentina at midday
in a flight from Santiago de Chile.
It was not an ordinary Sunday for Buenos Aires. While
everybody was still sleeping the first fans started to arrive at the hotel. The others
were at the door of the amusement park were the TV show was recorded. The first fans of
the queue were there a week before. There were girls from all over the country. Not even
the heat of that day of Summer ........
The Hotel
The BSB and their crew were in 16 rooms, most of
them in the upstairs floors. Besides they use two halls in the first floor to receive the
local press and the few fans that have a room in the same hotel.
During the few hours they spent in the hotel, they
relax, eat asado (typical food of Argentina) and they were in the gym of the hotel.
The most expected show
To see the BSB live was the dream of thousand of
fans, included us of course.
At 8:40 p.m., the producers of the TV show decided
to start the show and they recorded what it was the last part of the tv show. The first
song was "As long as you love me ". When they dance with the chairs they had
some problems: they are used to do that part with chairs made of metal and they had chairs
made of wood. This was funny because neither Nick nor Brian could close it and Howie
almost fall with it.
Everybody started singing
the spanish version of the Happy Birthday song to Brian, but they didn´t understand it
because Kevin thank us for singing it
The next song was "Everybody". The best
part of this song was when Nick shout "Am I sexual?" while he showed his boxers.
Everybody get crazy with this.
Howie said: - Adios! Gracias Argentina! Gracias por
todo su apoyo!!
At 9:00 pm started the live show. They dance the rap
part and then they sing "We´ve got it goin´on ". We discover that Aj had a new
tattoo in his right arm. While he was dancing Kevin cut one of his fingers. When the song
finished Howie D said:- That´s for you Argentina and Nick said:- Gracias.
Howie D shout :- Argentina!! Qué pasa? Como
yo digo Cómo están? Bueno, somos los Backstreet Boys y estamos muy contentos que estar aquí. Mi nombre es
Howie D, muchas gracias con mi corazón.
Nick :- What´s up, what´s up? Mi nombre es Nick,
Hols on a second, one second. (He went next to Howie and asked him How can I say I love you? in spanish)
and then he shouted TE QUIERO MUCHO!!!
Brian said: Hola!! Cómo estás? bien!! Cómo
estás? bien!! Is it hot? Me llamo B-rok just like Nick sayd TE QUIERO MUCHO and thanks for coming to the show!!!
AJ said: Hola!!!!!!( "well don´t scare Aj"
said Nick) What´s up? My name is AJ I hate to be the one to repeat everybody but TE QUIERO MUCHO, MUCHO, MUCHO,MUCHO
MUCHO!!!!!
Kevin said: Argentina!!!! Están listos? Están
listos? Yeah all right!! I´m Kevin What's up? Right now we´re gonna sing a song for you, It´s from Backstreet
Boys second album.
Howie D: Hold on a second Kevin. I think we are talking
about the same song. This song we recorded it in Spanish. " Queremos cantar una canción en
Español!!! Esta bien? ( Go ahead Howie D, said Nick). They sang "Donde quieras yo iré" a
capella. when they finished Howie D said:- Muchas Gracias!!!
Nick said:- Are you ready for this?
Kevin said:- "Let see if you recognize this
next song". They sang "Quit playing games" which was the last song.
Altough their performance was short it was
amazing!!!! They only stayed 10 hours in Argentina but that was enough to get everybody
crazy for them.
When they visited our country for the very first
time they had sold 60,000 records and they were so happy about the reaction of the fans
that the same year they returned to make a concert.
